The Week That Was #429

1. British Business Bank support helps revive Wales’ last working windmill

What does a former head pastry chef for Michelin-starred chef and restaurateur Marcus Wareing do next? Well, if you’re Richard Holt, you return home to Ynys Môn in 2019 to put your pâtissier skills to use in a windmill with a 250 year history. Richard’s ambition to revive the Melin Llynon windmill was aided by the Isle of Anglesey County Council, but Richard also took out an additional £23,000 loan with the British Business Bank’s Start Up Loans programme to complete final touches to the restoration work. Since then, the 31-year-old entrepreneur has been successful in several endeavours, drawing on his extensive expertise as a leading pastry chef, from the creation of a chocolate factory to the launch of his sell-out Ynys Môn doughnuts, ‘Mônuts’, and the opening of a high-end tearoom at the mill. We shared Richard’s story with media on behalf of our client the British Business Bank, achieving coverage in the Western Mail, Wales Business Insider, Nation Cymru and The Herald, with more to follow on screen!

2. PestSmart’s tips for keeping plants happy and healthy hit the national news

Are your houseplants and outdoor plants being ravaged by pests? Instead of reaching for pesticides, you can effectively combat them with alternative methods – like lint rollers and garlic spray. Check out @dustandbricks’ Instagram Reel showing her garden thriving one year on after using the garlic spray method and read S4C gardener Naomi Saunders’ tips for keeping houseplants healthy as part of iNews’ feature ‘32 summer hacks you wish you’d known sooner’. We’ve been working with Clara and Naomi as a part of Welsh Water’s #PestSmart campaign, which aims to encourage the public to reduce their reliance on pesticides and adopt more environmentally friendly methods of pest control. Check out www.pestsmart.wales for the garlic spray recipe and other helpful tips.

3. 50 Shades of Grey at Bisley

Heritage office furniture designer and manufacturer Bisley has been undergoing something of a colour revolution in recent years, introducing a kaleidoscope of new colours to their vast range of corporate and residential ranges. Nowadays, their collections are a world away from where the brand started out in the 1940s when the aesthetics of office interiors were quite literally fifty shades of grey. We explored this theme in an op-ed for leading trade title, Office Products International, penned by Bisley’s Creative Director Jeanine Goddard, who offered her take on why grey is not the way from the modern office space. In the same issue, Bisley CEO Richard Costin, and Bisley’s Sustainability Officer, Kieran Keohane, provided commentary for the magazine’s regular Category Update feature, which explores new trends within the sector.

4. New films rolling out for ongoing Export Exemplar campaign

Our ongoing campaign for Welsh Government continues to promote the power of exporting to companies across Wales. Alongside revisiting over thirty past company champions to check in on their export success, we’ve also been creating a suite of new film content to be rolled out as part of a far-reaching digital campaign. The new film content includes animated films to promote upcoming Welsh Government market visits to international territories, and this latest film shown here, is a 30 second awareness-led promo film which is targeted at senior company decision makers who have responsibility for international trade.
