The Week That Was #389

1. Sharing why one career change was a stroke of genius

Of all the career change stories we’ve told over the years, mechanical engineer to art teacher has to be up there with one of the best. Ejiroghene Lane has launched the first Welsh franchise of Art-K, an art class and workshops provider for both children and adults, in Barry. The former mechanical engineer is pursuing her dream of teaching children art thanks to a Start Up Loan from the British Business Bank. This week, we told Ejiro’s inspiring story and have so far achieved coverage in Insider Media and Business Live, with more to come.

2. Katherine Ryan rings in success at the Welsh Contact Centre Awards

We celebrated with the cream of Wales’ contact centres at last week’s glitzy 25th Welsh Contact Centre Awards, organised by Cnect Wales and hosted by Canadian comedian and presenter Katherine Ryan.

Admiral, Deloitte, Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water, Virgin Atlantic Airways and Tui were among the line-up of worthy winners in a range of categories. Jomo People were headline sponsors and Arvato, Legal & General Retail Annuities, SSCL, Starling Bank, Capital on Tap, Deloitte, Aldermore Bank, ee, Blackhorse Finance, Target and The Consumer Helpline also took home gold medals. Our story ran in industry titles contact-centres.com and Call Centre Helper Magazine as well as on  Wales247, News from Wales and Business News Wales.

3. Spreading the word about PestSmart

For the past two years, we’ve been working with Dwr Cymru Welsh Water on an award-winning campaign to encourage, advise and inspire gardeners on how to be pesticide-free.  On Wednesday, our very own Ffion and Anthea took to the stage to share our strategy and insights behind the campaign with members of the Welsh Water team and key stakeholders for the organisation at their annual WaterSource conference. Find out how you can be PestSmart on the campaign website here.

4. From Wales to Abu Dhabi with export exemplars

This week a cohort of Welsh businesses looking to export their goods and services to the middle east attended a market visit to Abu Dhabi with the Welsh Government. We helped share news of the visit with potential customers in the region with a film featuring Finalrentals, one of the Welsh businesses attending, in both English and native Arabic! You can watch the film on the Business Wales website and its LinkedIn channel.

5. Onwards from Ivor House

5+ years. 1360 stories in our weekly blog. Countless ideas. Brilliant clients. Powerful campaigns.

This week marked our last in our HQ at Ivor House, where the walls are filled with memories from all of us Working Word-ers and will be missed. But the next chapter in the story continues, and we can’t wait to show you our new home on the waterfront in Cardiff Bay.
