Another week, another big announcement in the lead up to the BAFTA Cymru 2024 Awards – this time the special award recipients. Recognised with the Siân Phillips Award, which honours a Welsh individual’s contribution to film and television, is actor Mark Lewis Jones, who during his 38 year career, has starred in critically acclaimed productions, including BBC nominated drama Men Up, Gangs of London and Baby Reindeer. Julie Gardner MBE, former BBC Wales head of drama, Bad Wolf Studios co-founder and producer with credits to her name including Doctor Who, Torchwood and Life on Mars, has been honoured with the Outstanding Contribution Award. 2. Walking into winter with Coast magazine

Everybody knows that come September, the sandals go away, and the walking boots come out to play. And what better way to enter the colder months than with a crisp coastal walk on the beautiful Gower peninsula? We worked with our client Visit Swansea Bay to round up some of the best walks in the area (alongside some of the cosiest pubs to finish at, of course) for a feature in the UKs leading seaside magazine, Coast. From famous spots like Rhossili and Three Cliffs, to the lesser-known beauty spots of Llanrhidion and Cheriton, check out our winter walking inspo on Coast’s website, with coverage in the print edition set to publish at the end of the year.

3. Eva ready to take flight with new career

Coleg y Cymoedd learner, Eva Ali, is looking forward to a new career as a flight attendant after fleeing her home country of Syria due to the ongoing civil war and coming to Wales in search of refuge. Previously a famous newsreader back home, Eva sought a career change and, with a passion for travel, was inspired to pursue a role in Cabin Crew, signing up to study a vocational course at Cymoedd. Having now passed the course with flying colours, she’s excited to get started in her new job and has shared her story with the media, where it features in Wales Online, the Western Mail and the South Wales Echo.

4. A new Start Up Loans Ambassador for Wales is announced

Leon Stapleton left his job teaching maths and science in order to combine his love of working with children, with his other great love – football. The result is the first Welsh franchise of We Make Footballers, a football training academy for children aged 4-12. In the set-up phase, Leon received a Start Up Loan from the British Business Bank to purchase equipment and other necessities, and the Bank were so impressed with his ambition and subsequent start-up journey that this week they named Leon as the Welsh Ambassador for the Start Up Loans programme. We shared the news with media, obtaining coverage in titles including Business News Wales, Wales Business Insider, Business-Live and the Western Mail, among others.

5. From Wales to the world: Zip-Clip’s global success story

What do football stadiums in Qatar, Amazon data centres, and the US Embassy in London all have in common…? They’ve all been built using wire suspension and bracing solutions manufactured in mid Wales! Welshpool-based Zip-Clip, which recently celebrated its 20th anniversary, has seen a significant boost in its international sales this year thanks to export support from the Welsh Government. From sprinkler systems in New Zealand to earthquake defence in Pakistan, the company has accessed new markets and new sectors thanks to their presence on market visits to target regions. You can read more about their overseas success on Business News Wales, Wales Business Insider, Powys County Times and more.
