The Week That Was #441

1. Coverage off the charts as
L E M F R E C K
takes home the Welsh Music Prize

On Tuesday night Newport-raised rapper L E M F R E CK took home this year’s Welsh Music Prize for his album Blood, Sweat & Fears following a ceremony jam-packed with performances at the Wales Millennium Centre. Our team have been working on PR for the prize and a late night backstage has seen us secure coverage from BBC Radio 1Xtra, Greg James’ Breakfast Show on Radio 1, NME and The Guardian to name just a few. There was also plenty of live coverage on the night with the awards being broadcast live on BBC Radio Wales, Radio Cymru, with live reports on ITV Wales News and S4C’s Heno. You can catch L E M F R E C K alongside Welsh Music Inspiration Award winner DJ Jaffa at The Globe on 20 October, which will be drawing Cardiff Music City Festival to a close after three electric weeks.

2. Behind the scenes and side of stage on socials as Llais is shared with the world

As once said by the composer Arvo Pärt– the human voice is the most perfect instrument of all. Llais Festival is a celebration of this instrument and all it can do with an eclectic mix of live music, thought-provoking performances, and interactive experiences. With over 30 artists from all over the world performing at Wales Millenium Centre, the festival hopes to share voices in every form and rejoice in different stories. Our team are on the Llais socials this weekend, sharing behind the scenes and side stage content from a festival with performers like Squid, Bombino, Georgia Ruth, Joan as Police Woman, Porridge Radio and Rogue Jones. Give them a follow on Instagram, TikTok, XFacebook and Threads. For more information and to grab any last-minute tickets visit the Wales Millennium Centre’s website.

3. Highlighting Health & Her’s export success

Welsh female health brand Health & Her is seeing its exports soar after landing a string of new export deals in the US and China thanks to Welsh Government support. The company offers a range of supplements to help women as they experience hormonal changes during menstruation, perimenopause and menopause, and already exports to Germany and Ireland. It has now signed contracts with major US pharmacy and supplement chains, as well as e-commerce deals with China’s largest social media platforms. We’ve secured coverage for the company as part of our Welsh Government export campaign in Business News Wales, Wales 247, and Herald. And, for aspiring exporters, we’ve also worked with Insider on a Q&A with Health & Her’s founders, offering their top tips to other business owners looking to expand overseas.

4. Wales Coast Path & National Trails announce social media ambassadors

When it comes to planning a coastal or countryside adventure, these days many of us turn to our favourite influencers and content creators for inspiration. Scrolling their technicolour Instagram pages, blog posts and TikTok’s is like a treasure trove of outdoor creativity that has their followers yearning to strap on their walking boots and head off for a hike to see these spectacular locations for themselves. With this in mind, this autumn we worked with our client – the Wales Coast Path and National Trails – to appoint the first in a new series of social media ambassadors, who we will be collaborating with on an ongoing basis to share some of the most beautiful locations from right across Wales. Expect to see lots of joint Instagram posts, as well as some forthcoming exclusive blog posts outlining some of the ambassadors’ favourite walking routes, iconic photo moments and insider intel. Meet all the new ambassadors here.

5. The Investment Fund for Wales hits the road

This week the British Business Bank’s Investment Fund for Wales (IFW) has hit the road right across Wales laying on a series of roadshow events, in Wrexham (Tuesday), Newtown (Wednesday) and Cardiff (Thursday). Almost a year on from the November 2023 launch of the IFW these events have been designed to help smaller businesses understand the different funding options available through the fund and acted as an opportunity to meet the appointed fund managers – BCRS Business Loans, FW Capital and Foresight, as well as the British Business Bank’s Nations and Regions Investment Funds team. We were there for the Cardiff event yesterday at the Principality Stadium, meeting with businesses and the wider Bank teams and reflecting on the past eleven months of IFW deals and achievements.
