The Week That Was #445

1. Drone firm flies with British Business Bank investment

Our client British Business Bank has made a major £850,000 investment from the £130m Investment Fund for Wales (IFW) into Caerphilly-based aviation robotics business Drone Evolution- and this week we’ve been sharing this story with the media.

Drone Evolution were consultants to Local Authorities across south Wales when Storm Dennis tore through the UK in February 2020 and a month’s worth of rain fell within 48 hours across south Wales’ flooded communities. Drone Evolution’s Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) navigated the flood’s impact on the region’s coal tips with their aerial robotics.

This latest equity finance deal from IFW delivery partner the Foresight Group will enable the drone development specialists and service providers to scale their commercial drone services, which are advancing how businesses and organisations use drones to increase levels of public safety. Insider and Wales247 featured the announcement.

2. The Newport business whose revenue is skyrocketing with

exports

We’ve been working with the Welsh Government’s team over the last seven years to encourage more businesses in Wales to start exporting and access help from Business Wales. One of the companies to have received such support is Newport-based Tomoe Valve, which is set to see its revenue skyrocket to £6m thanks to exports. We created a film to showcase Tomoe’s successes which will be used across a highly targeted paid social media campaign.

3. Night at the museum

Last Friday night we put on our gladrags and spent a night at the National Museum in Cardiff to celebrate a year of delivering creative campaigns at the CIPR Cymru Awards. Team Working Word came away with awards for four different campaigns on the night: promoting natural alternatives to pesticides with PestSmart; launching a £130m fund for Wales with the British Business Bank; promoting Tŷ Newydd, a residential writing retreat with Literature Wales; and shining a light on the Homeless World Cup with Netflix.  You can read more about these campaigns and our other inspiring work on our website.

4. Making Affordable Homes Accessible

What’s better than an affordable home? An accessible and affordable home! Trivallis Housing Association has received £25m in funding from Principality Commercial to support the development of new homes in and around Rhondda Cynon Taff, addressing the increasing demand for housing in the region. Trivallis has recently launched an updated corporate strategy that outlines objectives over the next five years to improve the wellbeing of communities and the people within them, enabling them to thrive. Trivallis employ over 400 staff and provide homes to 25,000 people across Rhondda Cynon Taff and Cardiff Bay, alongside managing nearly 11,000 homes and aims to provide safe, warm and affordable housing to those who are greatly in need. To get the word out about this work we shared the story with media and secured coverage in the Western Mail, Wales 247, Business Live,  Business News Wales, and Insider Media.

5. Having a ghouly weekend in Conwy

Halloween may have been last week, but we’re staying on the ghost train for a little while longer.  We’ve been working with our client, Visit Conwy, on their winter tourism campaign, organising press and influencer trips. From spooky spaces to supernatural sightings, Conwy is infamous for being one of the UK’s spookiest towns and last week we kicked off the first of our winter influencer trips with Halloween enthusiast and travel influencer, Sophie from @popcornandglitter. Haunted castles, spooktacular tours and delicious dinners were all on the weekend agenda, with Sophie sharing all about her ghouly getaway on her Instagram channel.
