The Week That Was #450

1.Carbon Conversations with Coleg Sir Gâr

In support of Wales’ ambitious 2030 net zero targets, we supported Coleg Sir Gâr’s Green Skills Academy to host a roundtable in Carmarthenshire, uniting industry professionals to discuss the challenges and opportunities within sustainable development. A key focus was upskilling the workforce to adopt and maintain sustainable practices, from waste reduction to energy management. The discussions highlighted how achieving net zero can enhance business resilience, unlock economic growth, and improve competitiveness in global markets. Find out what business leaders in West Wales had to say on the subject on Wales Business Insider, and in the magazine’s Dec/Jan print edition

2. Getting Wales working

According to figures from Welsh Government’s latest Labour Market report, 25% of people in Wales aged 16-64 are economically inactive. Now, a new scheme announced by the UK government as part of its ‘Get Britain Working’ plans, is aiming to change that. £125 million in set to be invested in eight areas, including Wales, to support people back into work. The funding, which will help people access health and skills support in their local areas, has been welcomed by our client, the CIPD in Wales, the professional body for HR and people development. 3. Have yourself a deli little Christmas

Ever wondered who makes the BEST Christmas sandwich? Working Word was on the case with our annual Christmas Sandwich Day! Each year, team members choose a different sandwich to judge on taste, filling distribution, presentation, structure, and festive vibes to find out which one reigns supreme. This year’s competition was fierce, with entries from Subway, Co-op, M&S, ASDA, Greggs, and Sainsbury’s – but only one could come out on top. And the winner was… Co-op’s Turkey, Brie, and Truffle Mayo! A standout sandwich praised for its delicious combination of flavours and a subtle nod to jolly indulgence. Try for yourself and bask in the festivities!

4. Back on brand for Dydd Miwsig Cymru

Preparations are in full swing to get ready for the 10th annual Dydd Miwsig Cymru – a day that champions Welsh language music – on February 7. In the run up to the day, we’ve been busy  working on designing and launching a new brand. We teamed up with renowned Cardiff designer, Rohanne Sanders (@thiswomandesigns), to create a funky new feel for next year’s celebrations. You can follow all the dressed-up Dydd Mwisig Cymru activity on the Welsh Government’s Cymraeg channels on X (Cymraeg) and Instagram (Cymraeg_welsh).

5. Celebrating Family Matters

Aberystwyth Arts Centre was named winner in the Best Family Arts Activity category in the Fantastic For Families Awards 2024 and we’ve been letting everyone know about it. Teulu / Family is the first exhibition launched by CELF, the new national contemporary art gallery for Wales, and is a collection of work created or selected by four local Aberystwyth families. The exhibition showcased ceramics and animations created by toddlers and children, and their families, displayed alongside their favourite works by international artists like Picasso and Welsh creatives including Ceri Richards and Kyffin Williams. The collection challenged the notion of noisy children not being approved of in galleries and centred around works celebrating spending time with those you love. Read more in
